“Glee” star Alex Newell’s bringing back his Boogie Shoes to the San Diego Pride stage on Sunday, July 20, and he recently revealed to Star 94.1 that he’s more excited than every to do deliver the best show possible because “that’s what keeps me going.”
It’s a homecoming for the 21-year-old, who recently entertained audiences at San Diego Pride when the singer/actor nabbed a recurring role on “Glee” in 2012 as the transgender character Wade “Unique” Adams. He was soon promoted to series regular the next year.
And now, with “Glee’s” sixth—and last—season approaching, Newell’s got his sights set on taking his powerhouse pipes from TV to the Broadway stage and music studio.
This past May he released his infectious debut single “Nobody to Love,” which may be familiar to those who heard samples of the song—an electro-pop cover from UK duo Sigma’s bootlegged version of Kanye West’s “Bound 2.”
How the song fell into his hands was a wonder for Newell, who said he was taken by surprise when he was asked to record bits of the song, only to find out that it was reworked later and issued as his first single.
